Job Description

As part of a new exhibit telling stories of how different families moved westward, the Washington State History Museum is featuring a number of first-person historical accounts taken from memoirs, journal entries, and oral histories. This is an excerpt from a letter written by a young man named Jesse, describing his trip along the Oregon Trail in 1843, and giving advice to other settlers who might follow.

Because this will be played as part of a set along with other oral histories and interview footage, the reading should be natural and understated, not overly dramatic or theatrical. Playback will be accompanied by a photo of Jesse.
