Job Description

Hello everybody

We have a really fun job that will be your chance to play around a little. The Canadian National Pond Hockey Championships is a fun mid-winter event which draws competitors from different parts of the globe although mainly just Canada and the U.S. They literally play hockey on frozen ponds (seems logical).

It's a fun-first event where the participants enjoy the camaraderie and share the love for the game. (Some dress up in crazy costumes to play their games). All in all we want this event to be THE event everyone goes simply because it's the most fun.

The approach in this video is to compare this event to the most epic physically-challenging events out there. We want to make it feel like those that go here are approaching the cutting edge of human endeavour (which is hardly the case). In reality it's people who have grown up playing hockey who want to still enjoy the event with their friends and family. Winning is secondary. Image aging heroes.

For this read I need your BIG tongue-in-cheek voice. Kind of that announcer trying to be THE EPIC ANNOUNCER. We need the perfect mix of classy but also fun and slightly cartoony. The video will take your voice backed by slow motion footage and epic hero type music to create a vibe way beyond what the event actually is.

We don't want deliberately fake or over the top campy. Check out this video for the basic feel we're after: and by "feel" I mean the way the narrator is playing with the script. Our script isn't necessarily epic but your read should be.

It needs to confidently-paced and hit the marks where needed. Remember, your VO will be backed by slow mo video (of basic pond hockey events which look incredibly epic in slow mo by the way) and Game OF Thrones type music. Above all else make someone want to go here.

Thanks for listening and have fun with it.

One side note: I'm not sure this is the industry standard or just me but I hardly ever contact voice artists who just send me their demo reel. It's hard to imagine the voice with my script plus I assume the actor is too busy or otherwise to do an audition. Just wanted to let people know that).

Thanks again.
