Job Description

GOAL:
I am a working animator in New York, and am looking for voice actors to bring to life characters for my upcoming independent animated short.

ABOUT ME:
I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2006 in Animation and Illustration, and even though I am still new to the industry, I am gifted in classic character animation, storytelling, and production. My past credits include the Nicktoon Kappa Mikey, Speed Racer: The Next Generation, and Hooked on Phonics Learn-To-Read. I am currently employed at an ad agency for a day job, but of course, continue to produce animation, illustration, and comics. To get familiar with what kinds of work I do and the kinds of voices I usually direct, visit my website at http://www.andrewkaiko.com , especially Mime For A Day, and BONE.

ABOUT THE SHORT:
The goal of this short is to return to making long-term shorts since graduating college. I learned that owning your own title is essential if you wish to have a future in this field, which is why so many freelancers are happier than if they were working for another company. The message of the short is “learn to be tolerant of all types of people.” I plan to show this short at festivals, screenings, and other formats, possibly online, for the indefinite future. It is for all ages.

SPECIAL REQUESTS:
In addition to using the services on Voices.com, I also want you contacting me through my own email address, which I will give to you through your response to this post. Communication and relationships are important to me in a job. Keep in mind that because I have a day job, it could take anywhere from a minute to a day for me to get back to you, however. I support improvisation, and I allow actors to think about the characters and form their own takes on the lines and offer new ones… it would come out forced and fake if we stick to the script religiously- in this stage, anything goes! Your sound files must be the clearest possible and used with professional equipment- noise, crackles, watery sounds, etc., will mean rerecording.

NUMBER OF CHOSEN APPLICANTS:
At least one for each gender. Several speaking characters appear in the short in both genders, of all ages. Most convenient to have hundreds of voices and can play one to all characters in that gender.

NUMBER OF PHASES:
I predict you will be on-board this job at least twice. Once in the initial phase where you form the voices, practice, and record your lines all the way through. Second later in the year, when animation is near completion, so you can record some ad-libbing to what’s on-screen to make it natural, and we can have retakes on revised lines here too. You will be paid for both individual phases. Be ready after the first phase to be available.

ASSETS:
Upon being accepted for this job, you will be able to use character designs, and an animatic mov file from me, to give you an idea of the performances.

RATE:
I am willing to pay the amount on this job listing with no delays or false promises- money is not a problem for me. I can bargain to an extent, but cannot go above $400. I am able to pay through Voices.com, Paypal or check.

BEYOND:
Currently, the short is to be finished by late 2011. You will be fully credited in the short. I will also send you in-progress, non-distributable files upon request later.

Note from Voices.com: It is recommended that you protect all your audition work by watermarking the submission or only recording a portion of the script provided by the client. This will render your audition file useless for anything other than reviewing your voice. Not sure what watermarking is? Please visit our FAQ section for more information.
