Job Description

WatchKnow Reader will be an innovative free tool to teach children to read. In the voice-over, you will (1) sound a word out (separating each letter sound by a full second) slowly, (2) sound it out faster (still separated, but just a split second), then (3) blend the word together (i.e., read it) but slowly, and finally (4) say the word at a normal speed. Then you will read a short sentence containing the word. Both words and sentences will be illustrated with attractive images and/or videos. Read about the project here: http://larrysanger.org/2010/12/plans-for-watchknow-reader/

In your sample, please do (1)-(4) for each of the focus words in the script; please don't just say the words. Of course, the sentences just need to be read once.

There will be about 40 words and sentences in this project--so, it's pretty small. 276 words, but you will have to sound out the individual words twice and say them blended twice, so it's more like 500 words' worth.

However, this is for a demo of a free website and app, supported by a nonprofit foundation. If all goes well, and there is a budget for it, we might well use you for about 40 more presentations of roughly the same length. We might use the same platform for other educational presentations later, which might or might not require voice-over work as well.

Style needed: your reading should be maximally clear and crisp (you are teaching not just how to read, but correct pronunciation). You should be cheerful and attractive to small children.

We are also likely to be hiring someone to read the words on-camera. If you are an attractive motherly-looking person, we might be interested. Please give me as much info as you can if you can do this (e.g., a link to a portfolio site, your rates for on-camera work, etc.)

If this helps secure a discount rate for the work, we are willing to put your name, as a reader, in the site credits.

You'll be working directly with Dr. Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia.
