Job Description

Peace Gospel International exists to empower South Asian native missions through micro-enterprise.

Presentation script of 1243 words to be read by male and female, alternating. Female script has 700 words, male 543.

Will be backed with photos, video clips and slides. Private use for small to medium sized audiences. Should have a documentary feel.

F: Peace Gospel International was founded in 1993 with the purpose of empowering South Asian native missions through micro-enterprise.

M: After some years of trial and error, we settled into an agricultural model of micro-enterprise to empower our native teams after we had great success with a water buffalo dairy farm launched in 2005.

F: Our dairy farm's profits support an orphanage, a widow's sewing school, clean water delivery to urban slum areas, a Bible College, and church planting among unreached areas.

M: We also seek to empower the poor through our widow's sewing business sponsorship program, and through education of children from poor communities.

F: Kirby Trapolino co-founded our organization with a native pastor from India named Samson who had a vision of reaching South Asia with the Gospel. Kirby met pastor Samson while on a short-term mission trip to India when he was 21. He came home with a burden and calling to start Peace Gospel to put feet to Samson's vision in India. After several visits to India to brainstorm and work alongside Samson over the years, Peace Gospel finally found the answer to their quest for empowering native missions. Oddly, the answer came in the form of our water buffalo dairy farm.

M: Why Dairy, you ask? Milk is a staple in the Indian diet. With the human population boom in India (currently over 1.1 Billion), the dairy output has not been able to keep up. Thus milk is highly profitable. 100% of the profits are directed back to our various outreach programs in India, thus the dollars you entrust to us as a donor are multiplied many times over.

F: Each water buffalo at the farm nets about $100 per month for our program funding, and a healthy nursing water buffalo costs only $500. We’re now in the midst of expanding this model of “giving multiplication” with farms that will produce the resources necessary to build more orphanages, expand clean water delivery to the slums, and more-- without having to raise funds from the West for each step of the way. It’s our hope that through this method, churches in South Asia can become self-sufficient in their work to fulfill the Great Commission.

M: Although loosely defined, South Asia usually includes the nations of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan. The population of these six nations equals over 1.5 Billion, with India making up over 1.1 Billion of that alone. This means that one out of every four people on the earth live in South Asia, and one out of every six people on the earth live in India.

F: With over 1.1 Billion South Asians living on less than two dollars a day, this makes South Asia by far the most concentrated area of poverty in the world.

M: South Asia is one of the most unreached areas in the world, with an average Christian population of less than 2%. Due to these factors and more, we feel this region of the world is very worthy of our time, energy and vision.

F: In 1996 Peace Gospel opened The Hadassah Orphanage with nine children. Now the home includes over 30 children who have been rescued from trash heap scavenging or a life of hopelessness on the streets. Thanks to a new facility completed in 2006, capacity at the orphanage is now available to bring in several more children. Through the work of our ministry, these precious children are provided a loving home where Jesus is the centerpiece of their education and physical well being. The orphanage offers everything the children need to enter society as adults equipped for an abundant life in Christ. With the growth of our dairy farm concept fueling the way, we are prayerfully considering plans to open 10 new orphanages by 2010.

M: Over 22% of India's urban population consists of slum dwellers-- those who live in make-shift homes and get by on less than $1 per day. This makes India home to the largest slum population on the planet, with over 60 million slum residents. Thus a large portion of our ministry is focused on slum outreach in India.

F: A cornerstone of our ministry has been outreach to impoverished widows in the urban slums. In our early years this came in the form of physical assistance, but in 2005 we launched a sewing school to help widows learn the seamstress trade. After taking them through a 3 month course we then equip them with a sewing machine and basic supplies. This allows them to start a business and provide for their family in their husband's absence.

M: According to the World Health Organization, nearly 1,600 children die every day in India due to diseases caused by contaminated water. Peace Gospel is laboring to deliver clean water to those living in the slums, where water contamination problems are rampant.

F: Peace Gospel missionaries are working in conjunction with local governments to provide Polio Eradication centers. Often thought to be already eradicated, Polio is still a great risk in countries like India, especially in their thousands of remote villages.

M: In 2005 we developed a program to reach out to the children of the socially oppressed Dalits, or outcastes, who are considered unworthy of education in Hindu culture. We have equipped our native missionaries to launch three Dalit Schools that are now educating children who would have otherwise never had the opportunity.

F: Indeed there is much work to be done in South Asia, but a dire lack of laborers. At the Peace Gospel Bible College in South India, we are training and sending out native missionaries & pastors to bring the hope of the Gospel to their communities.

M: An integral part of our mission since our founding in 1993, church planting and ongoing support of pastors has resulted in the creation of 42 new congregations. Many of these are in "unreached" areas where the teachings of Jesus Christ had never before been uttered. Most of these congregations meet in homes or outdoors. We've had the blessing of constructing some church buildings to better facilitate their gatherings, and hope to build more as funds permit.

F: Our desire is not only to multiply the church through establishing new congregations of believers, but also to equip the native church in South Asia. One example of that is found in our translation of two Women's Bible Studies into the Telugu language-- the first publications of their kind.

M: Would you pray and see what God may be putting on your heart to do to financially partner with us in this work? If you feel God is leading you to contribute financially, there are several ways you can do this.

F: We currently offer three forms of sponsorships where you can direct your giving toward a specific recipient. You can sponsor an orphan along with some vegetable plants for the orphanage garden, you can sponsor a widow's sewing business start up, or sponsor a pastor and his new fruit orchard.

M: We're also seeking sponsors for two specific project needs. A one-time gift of $500 sponsors a water buffalo at our dairy farm. A one-time gift of $3500 constructs a lasting church shelter plus a fruit orchard to enable self-support for the church.

F: Because Peace Gospel International is an IRS-approved nonprofit organization, all gifts are tax deductible. Financial accountability is maintained through following strict IRS guidelines and governance by a volunteer board of directors. We hope you'll pray about partnering with Peace Gospel International to help us empower native missions in South Asia.
