-------Script- Russian Life Project-------

Russia is the world’s largest country. It has vast natural resources and could potentially become the world’s wealthiest nation, but the economy has been greatly influenced by the moral effects of the Marxists system. Russia is a proud but despairing nation. About thirty percent of the people live on less than one dollar a day; thirty-eight percent live in absolute poverty.

The Church in Russia has been oppressed. From nineteen-twenty to nineteen-ninety over twenty million people died in prison camps and another sixteen million perished in route, many of them Christians. Communism sought to destroy Christianity. They literally dismantled churches. Economic crisis and a breakdown of the family followed.

The sudden opening of Russia in nineteen-ninety brought church based agencies and missions organizations flooding in. Much good was done, but many of these efforts were short term. Few were committed to long term immersion in the language and culture. Today, over ninety percent of Russians have no meaningful link to a church. The hopes of spiritual revival have been dashed and the Christian church in Russia continues to struggle with government restrictions and the Orthodox influence. There is a great need for Christians to plant churches with a Pentecostal message in their communities and their culture.

The women of Nebraska have an outstanding opportunity to partner with some of these churches and also with an orphanage. This LIFE project is a commitment to our brothers and sisters in Russia. It is an opportunity to reach some of the estimated one point two million street children and six hundred and fifty thousand orphans.

We will be partnering with pastors like Pastor Sergey. Pastor Sergey and his family feel a call to reach their community of Betlisa with the good news of Jesus Christ. They have very little income from the small church and Sergey repairs shoes to support his family and church. Sergey’s vision is for a church building and his heart is to minister to the children that are so hopeless, but very open to the message of Jesus. Sergey and his family serve sacrificially, trusting God to provide for the funds to construct a church building in Betlitsa.

The church in Zhizdra has been able to purchase a building with the funds provided by missions support. Pastor Sasha and the congregation are very excited that God has provided this building, but it is an older house that needs a lot of renovation to serve as a church. LIFE funds can provide a new roof, heating, and windows so that the building will become useable.

The church in Kirov has been established for several years. Pastor Nikolai ministers in his community and conducts services in orphanages and surrounding small villages. LIFE funds will go to this community to help them expand these ministries. We will also be supplying the orphanage with needed supplies.

Millions of precious Russian people have never heard the Gospel message. We must preach the Gospel to the lost. As we give to LIFE, we can join Pastor Jim Loutzenhiser and help construct buildings, provide for Bibles and literature to be distributed in the cities and villages. Since 1990, seventeen years have passed and there is no guarantee that this open window will not close soon. Today, we can talk about Jesus in the Red Square where the mighty armies of the former USSR paraded and their communist leader declared that he would execute the last Christian in Russia on that spot! The iron curtain is gone, Marxism and communism is gone and the door is open. The time for Russia is now! The darkness that covers that land is powerful, but we must rise up in prayer for the potential harvest of millions of souls before Jesus comes. Be part of this harvest. Commit to helping pastors and churches of Russia reach the lost.

The pastors of these churches have been contacted and they are thrilled that God has stirred the hearts of the women of Nebraska to reach Russia. Together, we can make a difference. Will you pray? Will you give? Will you go?
