Job Description

This project is for a language textbook in Japan. Your recordings will be mixed with those of other voice actors with different accents and used for practice test questions. The textbook is mainly for businesspeople and most of the contents might be heard in everyday business situations.
When making your recordings, please be sure to do the following:

•Produce CD-quality recordings because your work will be included on CDs with the textbook.
•Submit your sound files as wave files.
•Narrate clearly and act your parts naturally. Avoid excessive emotion as your part must mix well with the work of the other actors. Just make it as realistic as you can.
•Speak clearly, but please speak at your natural speed. Do not slow your speech in consideration of the learners. This is practice test material.

You will read the following four types.
example of Part 1
A) She is setting up the ladder.
B) The shutter is being painted.
C) She is leaning out of the window.
D) The woman is painting a letter.

example of Part 2
You will read either question part or answer part.
How may I help you?
(A) Thanks anyway.
(B) No, I think I’m lost.
(C) I’m looking for a restroom.

example of Part 3
You will read one designated part.
W: Hello Rudy. Listen, I’m in the middle of a traffic jam here. Somebody had an accident up the street from where I am. My cab driver’s doing the best he can, but it looks like I’m going to miss the beginning of the meeting.
M: I see. Is there anything I can do here to set up for your presentation?
W: No, I already have my laptop and the projector set up in the conference room. Oh, wait a minute. Yes, you can make copies of the outline. Do you see it there on my desk?
M: Just a second. Oh, yeah. Here it is.

example of Part 4
Ladies and gentlemen, we regret to inform you that we expect all flights scheduled for this morning to be delayed from 45 minutes to two hours due to the thunderstorm. Passengers who will be late for connecting flights in their destination cities can receive assistance in rebooking from airline representatives. There is currently no expectation that any flights will be cancelled, but circumstances may change, and all passengers are advised to remain attentive to details regarding their flights as information becomes available. Gate and departure information will be updated regularly on the Flight Information Boards throughout the airport. We regret the inconvenience, but passengers are reminded that weather-related schedule changes do not normally entitle passengers to request refunds, food vouchers, travel coupons or any other form of compensation from the airlines.
