Job Description

Thank you for watching this introduction to Dancers in Company, the University of Iowa’s premiere touring dance ensemble.

Each spring, Dancers In Company visits schools and venues throughout the Midwest, staging concerts, demonstrations and workshops for a wide range of audiences.
These events reflect the educational mission of the University of Iowa Department of Dance, which offers strong training in both modern and ballet dance technique.
Dancers In Company was created to give college dancers invaluable performing experience; to introduce children and adults to the world of dance; and to bring the thrill of live performance to places where concert dance is rare.

Keep watching, to learn how Dancers In Company can bring the power and excitement of dance to your community.
Since it’s start in 1986, Dancers In Company has been comprised of a select group of University of Iowa undergraduate and graduate student dancers, chosen by audition.
Directed by the University of Iowa's renowned dance faculty, Dancers In Company stages award-winning choreography.
Dancers In Company is acclaimed for it’s changing repertory- mixing traditional works with innovative dance that audiences find humorous, poignant and always compelling.
Dancers In Company has been featured on Iowa Public Television; has performed in over 25 communities in Iowa; toured the major cities of the Midwest, and even traveled to Asia for the Hong Kong International Dance Festival.

Dancers In Company always tailors it’s performances to the needs and facilities of the host organization.
Formal Concerts, Informal Concerts, Lecture Demonstrations and Workshops are presented in traditional and non-traditional spaces.
For dedicated performance venues, a Formal Concert features full-length choreography in both ballet and modern dance.

Dancers are in costume, performing on stage with full lighting and props. The Formal Concert has technical requirements, but the result is an unforgettable concert experience.

For settings where a Formal Concert is not possible, an Informal Concert also showcases modern and ballet choreography, but concerts can be abbreviated for time and performed in non-traditional spaces, without the requirements of a Formal Concert.

The Lecture Demonstration is a performance of various dance forms with introductory remarks about each work, and may include modern, ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop.

Audience participation can be included if space allows, along with engaging discussions led by company Directors.

Master Classes in dance are tailored to the level of the students and are taught by company members and touring faculty.

Master Classes include ballet, modern, improvisation, creative movement, acting for dancers, musical theatre, and hip-hop.

With a variety of presentations, Dancers In Company is well-equipped to put on an educational and entertaining show for any audience.

Because Dancers In Company is a non-profit group supported by the University of Iowa Department of Dance Program, a performance can be affordable for almost any organization.

The calendar fills up fast, so call us today to schedule a visit by the University of Iowa Dancers In Company- it will be a date with dance that you and your community will never forget!
