Job Description

NOTE FOR VOICE TALENT: Need authentic IRISH ACCENT. These recordings will be used during an exercise in which project teams from a fictitious company called "OilCo" are negotiating an environmental permit.

In the course of their negotiations, they encounter several issues that will require them to revise their business strategies along the way. These "issues" will be presented to the participants in the form of "voicemail messages," which is where you come in.

Essentially, the exercise tests the participants' ability to respond effectively to unanticipated changes in circumstances. Script is below.

"Yes, this is Sara Freeman calling from the Port City News. We are preparing a story for tomorrow’s edition reporting that one of your contractors at the refinery site – Port City Construction – is using non-union labor, 13- and 14-year olds. Port City’s president is closely aligned with PNOC and the government. More than a year ago, OilCo’s country manager, Brent Andrew, promised that OilCo’s presence in Petrolea would improve labor and social conditions here, and we are wondering if you see any conflict between that promise and the use of child labor on the project. The Industrial Workers Council is calling for West Land government to, quote, 'stand up to OilCo on behalf of all Petroleans,' close quote. We would like your reaction to these developments. Our publication deadline is one hour from now. If you’d like to comment, please contact me immediately."
