Job Description

6 distinct voices needed for an interactive exhibit about the Freedom Summers campaign of the 1960s. The Council of Federated Organizations (COFO), a coalition Civil Rights groups, had set up a call center to receive and log reports about civil rights work, arrests, harassment, and violence. The exhibit component will be a set of telephones that will play audio when a button is pushed. The script is a collection of reports of calls provided by COFO.

Each part ranges from 103-305 words; there are 6 parts, 4 female and 2 male. We need 6 voices that are distinct enough to be recognized as 6 individual people. If you are able to do multiple distinct voices, you can take on more than one part. The people involved in the Freedom Summers Project were on average in their early 20s to mid 30s in age, and tended to be educated individuals so we need voices to reflect this. It would be appropriate for the voices to have a slight Mississippi accent, since this takes place in Jackson, MS, and be African American.

For background on the movement you can watch this clip about Medgar Evers, a leading figure in civil rights during this period: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_HBdrJkmDE

Due to the nature of the project, we request that those interested submit a custom demo of the parts they are auditioning for. The male/female parts are highlighted in the script. The budget range listed is for per parts and is negotiable.
