Job Description

We are an educational publisher and this is part of a revision resource for schools. There are 7,418 words to be recorded.

It requires a male voice artist who can speak both English and German. The reader should be clear and, when speaking the English parts, be relatively neutral i.e. without too strong an accent. The German should be spoken slowly and clearly, an example mp3 is provided from a German practice test to show this.

Technical details
We would like the text, questions and answers provided in high quality mp3 files which we will burn to CD for our customers. The texts, questions and answers should be recorded on separate tracks.

Note that there are 5 different topic areas ‘Leisure and Free time’ ‘Me and my area’ ‘People and Life’ School work and Money and ‘Widening Horizons’ and these should be kept in in separate folders to avoid track duplication.

How to record the tracks
On the first page of each Unit, is the track listings. The tracks highlighted in bold are the ones you will be recording. Take the Leisure and Free Time document. This first track you will record is the Questions for Text 1.

On page two you have the transcript. You will see the number (1) this refers to the text. Then underneath it you have parts a and b. To record the question you read the words that are non-italic, for example “a. What film do they want to see? (4 second pause) b. At what time must they meet?” This will be labelled track 2.

To record the next track, the answer, repeat the same format as above, but reading the part in italics, for example “a. Die Welle (4 second pause) b. At half past one.” This will be labelled Track 3

For track 4, here you have just the texts. For the text tracks, state the number of the text (in German) and pause then speak the text. For example “Text 2 (2 second pause) Laura hat mich zu einer Feier eingeladen. Ich denke, sie ist am Samstag, aber das Problem ist, Gregor hat mich auch zu ihm eingeladen, um das erste Spiel der Europameisterschaft anzuschauen. Ich weiβ nicht, was ich machen soll! This will be labelled Track 4

There are examples of these three types of question from a Spanish podcast resources that uses the same formula attached, that you can refer to for guidance.

Quality Control
If readers don’t happen to have studied the subject, then they should read through the transcript in advance, check pronunciation of any technical words online, and ask us any queries in advance. If any technical words are mispronounced we would expect them to be re-recorded at no extra charge.

We will review the completed files within 2 weeks, prior to release of payment; if there are errors or frequent/bad stumbles we would expect them to be re-recorded.

Update 26/04/12
Please be aware that the scripts and downloadable file have now been changed, the word count has only been affected by 40 words and is now 7,418 words long
