Bnei Akiva
b'NEHY uh-KEE-vuh

---------------------------------------

The World Bnei Akiva Movement – a world of action and values-oriented education. In 1929 the first branch of Bnei Akiva was established in Jerusalem, comprising of eight young people. Today there are 150 branches worldwide, where some 50,000 members learn about the values of the Bnei Akiva movement – Torah Va'Avoda – Branch activities take place throughout the year, as well as regional camps, training courses in Israel, Torah study at Yeshivot and Midrashot, and community volunteer work. Many graduates go on to fulfill the movement goal of serving in the IDF and make Aliyah to Israel.

Since the founding of the World Bnei Akiva Movement, tens of thousands of movement graduates have made Aliyah to Israel and have become involved in every aspect of Zionist activity.

An essential component of Bnei Akiva's educational system is the Hachshara program – Year long training courses in Israel, in which the finest of Bnei Akiva's youth from branches throughout the world participate.
During the course, these young people become involved in Zionist activity, with the goal of fulfilling the dream of Aliyah to Israel. Every year some 500 youth spend the year in Israel on kibbutzim, in development towns, and at training centers, volunteering for the army and the community and studying at Yeshivot and Midrashot.

Essential to Bnei Akiva's educational program are the "Shlichim", movement emissaries working in Jewish communities across the globe.

The emissaries' work has a major influence in bringing people together, encouraging Aliyah, and preventing assimilation.

In an effort to expand and augment movement activities, the World Bnei Akiva Center is now being built in Jerusalem. This center will be the permanent base for activities in Israel for movement members from all over the world.

Vision, fulfillment, Torah VaAvoda, and Aliyah to Israel are the guiding principles of the movement.

Join us in making a difference to the Jewish world of today and tomorrow.
