Job Description

Product Concept:
We are creating a dialogue-driven, conversational presentation between a mentor/narrator voice that resides off screen and a new “student” avatar that we see onscreen. Mentor voice is an authoritative figure/adult that knows all of the answers; avatar is representation of average student (voice age appropriate for audience) that is eager to learn but overwhelmed. The mentor begins the interaction with the avatar by explaining things to orient the avatar to his/her new surroundings. As the presentation proceeds, we see avatar becoming more acquainted with things, showing the avatar’s growth from confused/overwhelmed to insightful/eager. Through the dialogue and interaction, the avatar becomes more at ease, confident, and eager to show independence. In the end we see the avatar transforming into a student. Presentation style will be an avatar on a white screen with rudimentary sketches acting as background images/props during dialogues, full screen images of learning management system during demonstrations, family photographs and B-roll video to help convey the student experience where appropriate.

Character Description:
The narrator is a male authority figure, positioned as a mentor or teacher. His tone is confident, calm, steady, and warm. He communicates patience and encouragement in the way he interacts with the student avatar. His demeanor communicates that he wants the student “to get” everything he is sharing with her. He tries to relate to the student to ensure she understands what he is teaching her. He is never condescending or impatient; he is quick to encourage the student to take the lead and encourages confidence in the student. Narrator is a strong, self-assured, supportive, gentle sort – age can range from 30s upward – shows maturity. A deep warm tone to voice offers comfort and reassurance. No accent is required and no ethnicity is implied.
