Job Description

This jobs more about grunts than words. We’re making a Kung Fu game called One Finger Death Punch. You can see it in action here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2pj_jzatDU (work in progress). We need males only for this project. We’re looking to put a human sound to our characters when they punch, kick and get hit. Kind of like what you hear in this YouTube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIllHhWE9g0. We’re not talking about impact sounds, like the sound of a fist hitting someone, but rather the sound someone makes when they throw a punch. We’re not looking for cliché sounds like a karate chop “Hiya!”. Bruce Lee had a very distinct “Watah” sound when he punched in kicked as you can see near the end of this YouTube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JveOq_Zbt1M. However, we don’t want anything to sound like Bruce Lee. Far too many games have adopted a variation of Bruce Lee’s distinct sound and it is simply too cliché. We’re asking for 20 different sounds for when our characters attacks and another 10 for when our characters get hit by an attack. It’s probably going to be difficult to make 20 different attack sounds, however, if they’re just slightly different that will work. Let’s face it, if all 20 were completely different sounding I’m sure the majority would end up sounding ridiculous. That’s why even a slight difference will work. Each sound just needs to be different enough so that if they’re played back to back you wouldn’t think it was the exact same.
One element that’s important to us is to capture the intensity of each grunt. When someone throws a punch they put all their force into it. We want to hear that energy in their grunt as well, loud and powerful. However we would like you to be careful when recording to look out for over modulation. We don’t want the audio to crack or pop which can occur with high energy projects like this one.

There is no script for this project, just the following:

- 20 different sounds/grunts for when our character attacks listed from 1 to 20.

- 10 different sounds/grunts for when our character gets hit by an attack listed from 1 to 10.

The project would need to be completed no later than 14 days after the job was accepted. We can accept wave or MP3 files. If this is something that interests you please send a couple audition sounds for our review.

Many thanks,

Jon Flook
