The concept of Nature’s Pet was born early in 2003, when the owners sat down with the goal to develop a business that would do more than just be a central location where customers could purchase supplies for their pets. Trends showed that people wanted more than just a box store they have to drive long distances to find. They want proximity, and quality of service and product. But quality products were not enough. A recent increase in consumer awareness demanded that the concept have an emphasis on healthy, natural lines of foods. Relying on industry-specific experience gained over more than 20 years, the owners came up with a concept that would meet this criteria. This was the beginning of Nature’s Pet.

In 2005, the first official Nature’s Pet store opened in a small community within Hillsboro, Oregon called Orenco Station. The immediate results were staggering and it was obvious that by bringing the stores closer to residential community we were meeting a very important demand. But being close to customer’s homes is not the only important factor in the success of our first store. Shoppers often comment that our well-trained and educated staff give us a special edge over the competition. While the response was positive from the community, many of the experiences within this first opening served as learning experiences and the owners were able to begin the refining process.

The experienced gained from the Hillsboro store was vital in opening the doors to our second store in mid 2006 located in the bustling community of Murrayhill, a growing residential area within the Beaverton, Oregon city limits. We made a special focus to establish a well-trained staff. We eventually developed an employee training manual to assist in helping employees be effective with helping customers. Strategic marketing and advertising tactics were implemented. We were not originally prepared for the strong reception we gained in Murrayhill, and we were forced to make some crucial adjustments within our management structure to cope with the growing business.

It was around this time that a partnership was formed between Michael T. Seitz and Daniel E. Webb, who are the current owners of the company. Having worked together succesfully in previous business ventures their strength, among other things, was in collaboration and business management. They developed new ideas for growth and how to manage it. Together they were able to refine and build the business, and ultimately, open a third store located in the smaller suburb of Sherwood, Oregon in June of 2007.

Sherwood was a unique location consisting not only of an ideal location, close to a thriving residential community, but it also had adequate space to establish a storage warehouse and company headquarters office space. Within months the Sherwood location was the fastest growing, and arguably became the most successful and profitable Nature’s Pet store to date.

Each store has been an improvement upon the one before. Each location has the advantage of learning from previous experiences. That is where we are today. A business founded on a concept that has proven itself time and again. And what about tomorrow? We’ve learned through personal experience that customers truly enjoy our stores and we even believe that Nature’s Pet stores are beneficial to the local communities in which they operate. Because of this we envision having Nature’s Pet stores dotting the whole Northwest in virtually any town and city. Inherent within the Nature’s Pet concept is the ability to prosper in many different demographic areas and under a variety of economic conditions. These strengths are what give us the confidence to realistically assume such wide-spread growth. We know it can be done. But we also know that we can’t do it alone. By sharing our methods and vision with you through franchising, our hope is that you too will catch the vision and together we can experience strong financial benefit while helping Nature’s Pet become a greater part of the collective community we are all a part of.
