Job Description

We are creating a 4-5 minute video for the Reserve Officers Association of the United States. Their mission is to "...support and promote the development and execution of a military policy for the United States that will provide adequate National Security."

The video will be debuted at a black tie gala in Washington D.C. for over 500 VIPs. The video will continue to be used by the organization on DVD and the Internet. This audience is comprised of a wide swath of influential attendees, from Senators to staffers and from Generals to Pentagon officials.

We are looking for a VO artist who has their own recording facility or access to a facility and can deliver an uncompressed .WAV or .AIFF as part of the fee. We don't ask the artist to do tremendous post production on their recording, we are fine sorting through and choosing the best takes. But, if you have a preferred EQ and de-essing filter setting we encourage you to apply that to the delivered file.

The director will want to dial into the session. We are looking to schedule that session this coming Friday 1/18. We can be flexible on time, including time zone considerations. We are based on the East Coast. For dialing in, a hybrid or patch is preferred, but I have directed talent with such low tech methodology as wearing a cell phone hands free while in the booth. I want to dial in to save time on getting this recorded how we envision the piece the first time, as opposed to back and forth with revisions. I don't see the session needing to last longer than 45 minutes or so.

As Voices.com only allows me to choose a few key words, let me describe what we are looking for in the voice and approach. Famous voices we discussed sounding like include Sam Elliot and Tom Brokaw. We are looking for gravitas, a little gravelly, and definite authoritative maturity. We want to give weight to the words, but want the VO to still have a naturalistic approach, not conversational entirely, but not going to voice of God omnipotence. Believable, sincerity, and clear authority. Think Sam Elliot in Ram truck commercials a little more than him in The Big Lebowski. Think Clooney vs. John Corbett.

The client definitely wants to listen to samples from the script, so samples should recorded.

Please be aware that our client is a nonprofit military service organization. Budget is a consideration, but the right voice is the most important.
