Some History

Ernesto Guevara de la Serna Lynch (May 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967), commonly known as Che Guevara, el Che, or simply Che, was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, political figure, physician, author, military theorist, and leader of Cuban and internationalist guerrillas. His stylized image also later morphed into a ubiquitous worldwide countercultural symbol.

His face is on everything from huge murals to handbags. His words have been translated into dozens of languages, even made into a feature film. (V/O) But behind the iconography and cult of personality that surrounds Earnesto ³Che² Guevara lies the 20th Century¹s truly unique and interesting individuals.

Born in 1928 in Rosario, Argentina to middle-class parents, the young
Earnesto suffered from incapacitating asthma, but nevertheless excelled at
rugby. As an adolescent, Guevara was already exhibiting signs that he was no ordinary boy. He showed passions for poetry, photography, and chess, and was well-known for his dynamic personality. Even at an early age, he showed interest in the writings of Karl Marx and other political theorists.
