Let’s talk about the pros and cons of cardio workouts. First of all, it’s easy to learn. We can all walk and run without any training. Cardio has a lot of benefits: it’s great at lowering your resting heart rate. It’s great at improving your heart’s ability to pump blood throughout the body and efficiently move oxygen and nutrients to the cells, and efficiently remove carbon dioxide and waste products away.”

The cons of cardio will surprise you. It’s not so great at helping people loose weight. In order to loose 1 lb of fat, you need to burn 3500 calories. So basically, if you can burn 500 calories on a treadmill, you’ve only lost 1/7 of a lb. If you can keep that up for 7 days, you can loose 1 lb. That is of course, assuming that you do not increase what you normally eat and have no underlying metabolic issues.

Cardio is not great at creating great looking bodies. Once the exercise is over, cardio does not elevate a person’s resting metabolic rate or fat burning responses. Fat loss only occurs DURING the cardio session.
