The Fibre

Jute is a bast fibre obtained from a tall reed-like plant grown mainly in the Bengal area of East Pakistan
and India. The fibre lies between the outer bark and the woody core.

Preparation of Land:

In November to December, land preparation starts in the low lands. High or medium land preparations
start from January to February.

Sowing:

Generally, sowing takes place from February to April according to the position and condition of the land,
nature of soil and the amount of rainfall.

Weeding:

Jute crop is infested with a large number of weeds. Thus, weeding is required at least 3 times just within a
month and a half from the date of sowing.
