Located midway between Boston, Massachusetts and New York City and situated on the shores of both the Thames River and Long Island Sound the City of New London is a multicultural community in which to live and visit. Our historic waterfront City is best known as the home of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and America’s Tall Ship the Barque Eagle.

We are served by the interstate system as well as the Northeast rail corridor. We also have our own deep water port, and an airport less than five minutes away.

Great schools, beautiful beaches a wide range of homes, and easy access to theatre, music, and the arts make New London a truly unique place to live.

Our downtown is home to our historic waterfront distinct, where you can stroll down streets lined with 18th and 19th century buildings. Visit unique shops, and international restaurants, all in a relaxed maritime environment. At the southern end of the city is our 50 acre Ocean Beach Park that boasts white sand and a recently restored boardwalk.

New London Residents demand and get a first rate education for their children. We have a strong elementary reading curriculum in addition to a host of high quality programs that prepare our students for college and the complex global society of the 21st Century.

New London is fortunate to have the impressive Mitchell College, Connecticut College and the United States Coast Guard located along the northern end of New London, just minutes from each other. The University of Connecticut at Avery Point, Project Oceanology, and several community colleges, are less than twenty minutes away.

Southeastern CT is a strong economic engine that truly is a reflection of the national economy. New London is a great place to call home and a wonderful place to raise a family. A recent report by Salary.com ranks New London as the No. 1 most favorable city in the country based on an analysis of living costs and average pay in 188 cities nationwide. The report said New London's salary ranges were above the national average and cited its low cost of living and low unemployment rate bolstered by Pfizer's recent $300 million investment in its world research and development headquarters and increased defense spending on the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.

In the 1646 John Winthrop Jr lead the first English settlement making it the 13th modern Connecticut town settled by colonists, informally named Pequot after the tribe that were living in the area. The city officially took its current name (after London, England) on March 10, 1658 with the parcels deeded to local families.

Between 1705 and 1801 sections of the original town were ceded to form newer towns. The towns of Groton, Ledyard, Montville, and Waterford; and portions of Salem and East Lyme; now occupy what had earlier been the outlying area of New London.

New London has the best of both worlds. From our beautiful coast on the Long Island Sound to our historical, to vibrant downtown, New London is a beautiful destination for visitors, or for raising a family.

About the Client

This is client's first posting at Voices.com.

The public schools of New London are vibrant, engaging places for children to learn and grow. Unlike the connotation of “urban” as reflected in popular media, we are a small district where adults care about children and know their names.
