Job Description

I'd like you to read a few pages of a sci-fi/drama novel that I've written and am currently in the process of publishing with Tor Books in New York (had to toot my own horn a little bit!). I work for an ad agency in Wellington, New Zealand called Clemenger BBDO and this read is an attempt to get some investors from within the company to help me get it self-published if things go pear shaped Stateside. I'm in IT Support (so not a creative role) and I think this will help me "pitch the project" to a team who's unfamiliar with my own creativity.

If you want to work with me after the audition, I'd say I'll have you doing a read of 2-3 minutes in total of the character. I want to present it as an "excerpt" from the novel and really pique the interest of the listener.

Anyway... to get you in the HEAD SPACE... This chapter is from the perspective of the main character's wife. She's been imprisoned for 30 years by another man who once loved her, and that love has turned to a sort of darkness. She's now nothing more than his pet and though her will is still intact, she's finally become worn and weary from the years of isolation. It's almost as if she's got a last reserve of strength left for one final act of defiance against her captor. A bit somber and a bit matter of factly is what I'm after... forlorn but ambivalent almost. Since what she's saying is quite horrific she's still delivering it in a way as if she's not surprised by anything anymore.
