Job Description

We need narration read for two small (under 4 minutes) multimedia pieces that will finish to our website. The two stories are about Catholic Relief Services programs in Egypt and Ghana. One script is attached below.

Egypt has one of the oldest cultures in the world. Although the majority of Egyptians live in rural areas, there is an increase in the number of people moving to urban areas. While strides have been made in improving the standard of living for much of the population, disparity in income and access to resources and services still characterize life for many Egyptians. Illiteracy also remains high and poverty particularly impacts rural women and children.
Since 1956, Catholic Relief Services has worked with the people of Egypt to tackle poverty through several program areas, including microfinance.

CRS Egypt's Microfinance program provides small loans to poor women who are often denied loans through conventional financial institutions. The loans are used to start or expand small businesses. The program currently reaches about 10,000 women in villages throughout Egypt.

“My husband left me 3 years ago, and I was looking for ways to provide for my family. When I heard about CRS’ microfinance opportunity, I thought it was a good way to help my family.”

Wageeda makes beaded handicrafts using loans made possible through CRS. Her daughter and grandchild live with her. Using the profits from her business, she was able to pay for her daughter’s wedding and to celebrate her grandson’s birth recently. With the loan, her business has become more self-sustaining.

“Before, dealers would bring me and my daughter materials to make necklaces. I would sell the finished products to him, but pay a fee for him having brought the materials. Now we get the materials ourselves so we can get all the benefit.”

“I’m proud of my handcrafts. It’s an accomplishment to make them because they are challenging. In the future, I want to expand my products into new markets.”
