Non-edgy, authentic, smooth, engaging, attractive, believable, brave, caring, confident, conversational, corporate, guy next door, friendly, genuine, informative, funny, narrator, are all apt descriptions. I usually have a smile on my face and that comes through when I record. I'm upbeat and lighthearted by nature and believe that laughter is a good medicine. Yet, I am often cast and comfortable voicing parts as narrator, public speaker, and leadership voices such as those for a seminar / board meeting or press conference setting. When singing, I fit nicely into the 2nd tenor / baritone range. I am experienced and at ease on or off-camera and gifted with the ability to speak extemporaneously about my subject matter using strong communication skills and a quick wit. I can totally relate to the common man as I am a general contractor and master cabinetmaker. I have helped start, been senior partner or owner of several companies and have extensive experience as a sales and marketing professional. All these life experiences have shaped my perspective and vocal deliverance with the end result being strong and believable.

Coming from a varied background in education and work experience gives me strong resources from which to draw.
Music and singing have also played an important role in shaping who I am. I got my first “professional” singing job at age 18 and went on to work full time in that area for many years. As a result, this has greatly complemented and enhanced my ability to create believable voices in the VO industry.
In 1984, I did my first "real" voice over work, narrating a documentary shot in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. I was hooked! Through the 80's, I narrated many industrial and trade videos.
In 1992, I branched out into the medium of radio. Using high-tech gear, I still produce and DJ a morning show five days a week as the “Manna Man” on Christian radio KVIP Redding, CA and KMWR Brookings, OR. The program airs Monday-Friday from 6-9 AM on 98.1 KVIP Redding, CA and 90.7 KMWR Brookings, OR as well as via 31 translators in AZ, CA, NV, OR and WA, broadcasting to over 200,000.
Since 1992, I have read fresh copy daily on my radio program and as a result, have very strong sight-reading skills, and can often do a word perfect read on the first take. The last book that I recorded was in the "Chicken Soup For The Soul” series.
Accents, Dialects, Impersonations and Characters:
Having a trained singer’s ear gives me a huge advantage in learning to mimic and in creating new voices. I confess, I am a Mel Blanc devotee. As a kid, I always mimicked cartoon voices and am delighted to make my living talking “funny”. I’ve got a pocket full of Loony Toon-like voices.
My favorite character voice is Granpappy Amos McCoy from the old TV show, "The Real McCoys" played by Walter Brennen.
Dialects come easily and my British, Russian, French, Eastern European and Mexican voices are well rounded and convincing. As an Irishman, I’m more of a “Lucky Charms” kind a guy.
Years of professional singing have given me a strong upper range of falsetto voices and I’ve got a pile of “cartoonish” voices that can be varied and designed to your liking or project. I do a mean contralto!
I can talk for days as a west Texan and love doing the lilting swing of Oklahoma and Tennessee. Conversely, Arty Johnson’s old man voice from the Laugh-In days and the Muppet's old man comes naturally to me.

Dear Madam/Sir:Aaron Paul Lazar - Author
I am writing to recommend Mr. Lou Hecker as a consummate professional in the field of audio book narration.
I’ve authored and partnered in the production of 22 audio books, and throughout my experience I’ve dealt with varying levels of expertise and talent. As time passed, I’ve learned what to expect and what to avoid in the arena of voice talent.
Certain narrators don’t pay attention to detail and produce chapters requiring hours of listening and correction. Others promise delivery dates, but don’t “deliver.” Yet others disappear for months at a time. And some cannot seem to repeat the voices they create consistently throughout the story.
As an author, I learned to be more and more selective about my narrators, and have been advancing these skills as I’ve produced each book.
When I first received an audition from Mr. Lou Hecker, I was spellbound by his warm voice. His pure tones, wonderful American male persona, and excellent diction hooked me.
But it was more than that. It was Lou’s interpretation of my written words that astounded me. He actually pronounced every nuance of each sentence precisely as I “heard it in my head” when I wrote my books. He really “got” me and more than just reading words by rote, he felt and projected the sentiments behind them with just the right touch of inflection.
I also feature a number of accents throughout my books, including German, British, Greek, Italian, and French. Lou’s performance of all accents, male and female voices, teenagers, babies, elderly folks and variations therein was consistent and brilliant. Among all voice actors with whom I’ve worked, Lou is tops when it comes to accents and uniformity of voices throughout the production.
On top of these talent attributes, Lou has a strong work ethic. If there was a question about not making a deadline, Lou broached the subject well in advance and we rearranged our schedule slightly to our mutual agreement.
Lou is also an excellent communicator and very friendly. He emailed alerts when new chapters were posted on ACX, and we chatted frequently back and forth about pickups and suggestions for change. Because he has a natural aptitude for dialog, I actually edited my book to reflect some of his suggestions in my characters’ conversations. And The Liar’s Gallery is better because of his participation.
I’m happy to discuss any of the above with you. Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Regards, Aaron P. Lazar, 5647 Groveland Hill Road, Geneseo, NY 14454

To Whom it May Concern,
Lou Hecker narrated one of my books, Tears of a Heart, and I couldn't have been more pleased. He is professional, timely, and friendly to work with. There were very few errors, and being that the book was fantasy and filled with strange words it was a more difficult read. Lou, however, was very amenable to making pronunciation corrections and quickly fixing any small editing mistakes.
Lou did an excellent job voicing multiple characters within the book, giving each a distinct voice, accent when needed, and tone. Lou also clearly displayed a working understanding of the author's intent. He knew when to pause, what words to emphasize, all in an effort to bring the work to life.
He finished the project two days ahead of schedule, giving me time to review the work before approving it.
I definitely will use him again to narrate. I highly recommend Lou Hecker.
When I decided to have the first book of the Solbidyum Wars Saga made into an audio book I selected Lou Hecker as the narrator. Out of the thirty four candidates who auditioned for the recording, he demonstrated the best voice and accent for my lead character as I envisioned him. In narrating the story Lou needed to demonstrate a wide range of voices and accents, and he did it superbly. For me, having an audio book produced was a new experience, Lou assisted and led me through steps in editing that I was unfamiliar with. He made the process easy for me as the author to review, and comment, on his progress. At one point during the recording process, Lou became ill, and I was concerned that we might not be able to complete the project on schedule. However, Lou rallied and managed to complete the project a few days early.Dale Musser - Author
Lou was easy and fun to work with. His narration is clear, succinct, and he brought the characters to life in the manner I wished for. It reminded me of the old radio stories I listened to as a child. It was a great honor having him read the first book of my series, and I am hoping to have him do others in the series as well.
I highly recommend Lou Hecker to anyone wishing to have a narration for an audio book.

A book is a special thing. To the reader, it is a journey to a world of people, places, and things that are the product of a person they will probably never meet. If the journey is a good one it can stay with them for a life time. We all have those books. A bad one is tossed aside, and spit out, like a bad peanut.Micheal Maxwell - Author
To the author, every word is a labor of love. It is an attempt to share with the world, the thoughts, truths, and story, they care enough about to expose their soul, naked to the world. If you succeed the reward is without compare. If you fail, there is no rock big enough to hide under.
An audiobook embarks on a journey built upon trust, mutual respect, and the ability to give and take criticism. When I was approached about turning my book Diamonds and Cole into an audiobook, I thought about it long and hard. Someone was about to take my words, step into my mind, and read them to the world.
When I met Lou Hecker, the worry turned to a wisp of air, that disappeared with the first sentence he read. He was the person I knew would treat my work with respect, and I knew he “got” what it is I do.
Lou did a masterful job of turning my words into an audio journey that even I got lost in. I’m sure there were times he was frustrated with my request to “do it just once more”, but we developed a bond, an understanding that is a testament to his professionalism and dedication to his craft.
I can say without hesitation this baptism by fire, for both of us, has forged and honed a partnership and friendship that will manifest itself to the delight of everyone who listens to The Cole Sage Series on audio.
