To whom it may concern:Habitat for Humanity
I'm writing this letter of recommendation for Donn Hanson of DLH Productions. In 2001 he was contracted by Habitat for Humanity-Duluth to do two videos for us, one for our construction volunteer orientation (10-12 minutes) and another for community outreach (14-16 minutes). We were very pleased with the outcome.
As a non-profit agency we had the customary budget constraints and minimal experience creating video formats at the local level. We provided him with a script and some basic concepts, and he ran with it from there. I can't say enough about what he produced for us. The first time I saw it it made me cry – which is a testimony to the effective nature of his work. Habitat would hope that our work would touch the heart of the community and the viewing audience. Thanks to his expertise and production technique it does exactly that.
His use of varying voice-over expression, humor, music clips, and visual action really keeps the attention of our volunteers during orientation. They always laugh at the special touches of graphic illustration about keeping a ”good head on your shoulder” while on the construction site.
He was resourceful, thoughtful and brought to life the true message of what Habitat is all about. At no additional cost, he found a perfect selection of background music included in the piece. He went above and beyond, and made use of his community contacts with a well-known judge who provided additional commentary and emphasized the positive impact of Habitat's work.
Our staff viewed it together for the first time and sat there misty-eyed and stunned at how fluidly it all came together. We all felt a greater sense of pride about our work as a result of how he captured it. A marvelous mix of content, both meaningful and persuasive, educational and amusing – now that's a lot to pack into a ten-minute flick!
Donn's work exceeded our expectations. I hope he is given the opportunity to provide the same creative versatility and professional acumen on any upcoming project for which he's being considered.
