Dear Madam/Sir: I am writing to recommend Mr. Lou Hecker as a consummate professional in the field of audio book narration. I’ve authored and partnered in the production of 22 audio books, and throughout my experience I’ve dealt with varying levels of expertise and talent. As time passed, I’ve learned what to expect and what to avoid in the arena of voice talent. Certain narrators don’t pay attention to detail and produce chapters requiring hours of listening and correction. Others promise delivery dates, but don’t “deliver.” Yet others disappear for months at a time. And some cannot seem to repeat the voices they create consistently throughout the story. As an author, I learned to be more and more selective about my narrators, and have been advancing these skills as I’ve produced each book. When I first received an audition from Mr. Lou Hecker, I was spellbound by his warm voice. His pure tones, wonderful American male persona, and excellent diction hooked me. But it was more than that. It was Lou’s interpretation of my written words that astounded me. He actually pronounced every nuance of each sentence precisely as I “heard it in my head” when I wrote my books. He really “got” me and more than just reading words by rote, he felt and projected the sentiments behind them with just the right touch of inflection. I also feature a number of accents throughout my books, including German, British, Greek, Italian, and French. Lou’s performance of all accents, male and female voices, teenagers, babies, elderly folks and variations therein was consistent and brilliant. Among all voice actors with whom I’ve worked, Lou is tops when it comes to accents and uniformity of voices throughout the production. On top of these talent attributes, Lou has a strong work ethic. If there was a question about not making a deadline, Lou broached the subject well in advance and we rearranged our schedule slightly to our mutual agreement. Lou is also an excellent communicator and very friendly. He emailed alerts when new chapters were posted on ACX, and we chatted frequently back and forth about pickups and suggestions for change. Because he has a natural aptitude for dialog, I actually edited my book to reflect some of his suggestions in my characters’ conversations. January 15, 2015 To Whom it May Concern, Lou Hecker narrated one of my books, Tears of a Heart, and I couldn't have been more pleased. He is professional, timely, and friendly to work with. There were very few errors, and being that the book was fantasy and filled with strange words it was a more difficult read. Lou, however, was very amenable to making pronunciation corrections and quickly fixing any small editing mistakes. Lou did an excellent job voicing multiple characters within the book, giving each a distinct voice, accent when needed, and tone. Lou also clearly displayed a working understanding of the author's intent. He knew when to pause, what words to emphasize, all in an effort to bring the work to life. He finished the project two days ahead of schedule, giving me time to review the work before approving it. I definitely will use him again to narrate. I highly recommend Lou Hecker.
