new roads, efficient drainage and updated facilities may be in Galveston County's future. Try to fix things now when they're reasonable to fix, as opposed to waiting until later on, when they're going across the whole lot more to fix. Voters across the county will be casting ballots to decide on an $80 million county bond for road drainage and facilities projects. I've been hearing for years that cities needed some help in building some of the roads and infrastructure they need to continue to grow. Galveston County's growing at an incredibly fast rate faster than the tax base is keeping up with. So for a number of reasons, we thought the bond issue was the right way to handle the infrastructure improvements we needed. This bond election comes less than three months after Hurricane Harvey devastated parts of the county. Way also saw some things that we need to do better because of Harvey, some drainage issues, road issues, things like that. This is going to give us the opportunity. It's sad that Harvey came along and caused all the devastation that he did. But it also pointed out weak spots that a majority of the bond $56 million of it is slated for road projects, with the goal of not building a road for tomorrow. But for the years to come, a number of projects are going to be able to get traffic moving, which improve their quality of lights. Specifically, the intersection. Improvements in Lake City will be a tremendous value to the community population. $6 million of the bond proposal is earmarked for drainage projects near Highland by You, Dickinson by you and Cloud by you. I think the really big training project is regional detention on Dickinson by you be able to create regional detention. I think it's long term beneficial not only those who live in Lake City on Long Dickinson by you, but also the city of Dickens. Voters will also decide whether $18 million will be spent on facility upgrades, including the aging medical examiner's office, the road and bridge department's headquarters, as well as a new annex building in Bay Cliff. Every single vote counts, and again, we're not advocating that you vote for or against the bond projects, but be educated on what you're going for and go cast an appropriate balance. Early voting runs from October 23rd. 2 November third. Election Day is November 7th, a complete list of voting locations as well. A sample ballots can be found at Galveston votes dot org's.
