good day. Everyone needs me, but I'll welcome. I'm recording there specifically for voices dot com. I am very new on this website, but trust me, I'm a really fast learner, and I'm so excited to know more and to learn more. So I had many experiences with me using my voice, but I decided to record my favorite thing to do, which is reading and discussing ideas. And I chose my favorite category of literature, which is short story and one of my favorites Ones is the short story that is called The Bet by Anton Chekhov. I have really enjoyed reading and discussing ideas about morality, and he chose. The writer has chosen to speak about capital punishment and imprisonment for life, so I'm not going to read much. I'm just having the introduction, but I'm also going to share some points of view with you guys to whoever's listening to this. Thank you. Okay, let's get started. It was a dark autumn night. The old banker was walking up and down his study and remembering how 15 years before he had given a party on autumn evening. There have been many clever than men there and there had been interesting conversations. Among other things, they had talked of the capital punishment. The majority of the guests, among whom were many journalists and intellectual men, disapproved of the death penalty. They considered that form of punishment out of date, immoral and unsuitable for Christian states. In the opinion of some of them, the death penalty ought to be replaced everywhere by the imprisonment for life. I do not agree with you, said their host, the banker. I have not tried either the death penalty or the imprisonment for life. But if 1 may judge a priori, the death penalty is more moral and more humane than the imprisonment for life. Capital punishment is a man at once, but lifelong imprisonment kills him slowly. So which execute ER is the more humane he who kills you in a few minutes? Or he who drags the life out of you and the curse of years. So that was it for today's recording. Um, this introduction tells you already what the short story is going to be about, but it's not spoiling type now. It's the interesting type, like you want to know more so the main talk because I said war that is going to be about the capital punishment and the death penalty. Which one of them is fair enough for human being, Even though I mean, whoever deserved one of these must have done something really bad, like might be a criminal might be you a rapist or some of time like you've done something really bad to the government were to individuals, the citizens of this government. So one of the questions you would get instantly when you read this is is there people who who think criminals like they should be treated fairly even though they made mistakes? That's the first question that I got. And the answer is yes, because humanity knows no boundaries. We all make mistakes. Regardless of what we've done. We still are human beings, so we have to be treated the same. And you have to put yourself in someone else's shoes, even though if he's done something bad, you have to imagine yourself in his place or in their place to see what which one is fair to you or which one is more moral for you. Later in that story, you would find a quote which is to live at anyhow, or I'm sorry to live anyhow, it's better than not at all, which is personally what I believe. Like in that story. I don't want to spoil it. What the one or journalists who said that I would do 15 years present life like But you you would give me some wine and books and paper and pens and some music and I could live. It's true. So this talks about also about the power of reading. But it also mentions that sometimes reading too much might affect you in bad way like it's called depressive realism. Because when you read books, if you're good reader like you would imagine yourself swimming and dancing with beauties all around the world, drinking all types of wine, enjoying every single bit of that and imagine yourself as a character in that book. Start seeing them in your head, so reading too much and just involving yourself too much in that book or in those books, Imagine reading for Fight for 15 years. Sorry you would reach to the depressive realism when you just decide. Two. Isolate yourself and just hey on humanity at all types and shapes and colors in every culture is because you start to see fact of what we've done as human beings and what was damaged and what we've destroyed. So you'd be just hate Brendan hate human beings and just being too depressed because the reality is not as fancy as it is in books and heroes do not win in real life. So back to the point, which one do you prefer? Do you think that execution or death penalty is fair and moral or just imprisonment for life with very strict rules, with what to do it and not to do? Because personally, I think as human beings I would just right my eyes on life, no matter what. And I would enjoy every single second of it as much as I can so gnawed Prefer to be imprisoned for life other than being executed in front of everybody. So, yeah, that was it. Hopefully you like it. It's my very first try. So let me know. What do you think
