is cancel culture of mob mentality or a long overdue way of speaking truth to power. These are questions that many people have today when it comes to the topic of cancel culture centuries ago it was tarring and feathering today. It's just the hashtag the rise of cancel culture. An idea of canceling someone coincides with a familiar pattern of a celebrity or public figure doing or saying something offensive, followed by a public backlash from a large opinionated group someone is referred to as being cancelled in their past or current life is exposed, revealing inappropriate behavior into showing their career within the past few years. The idea that a person can be canceled has become a polarizing topic of debate. In some people's eyes, this process of public neglect has played a big role in social justice. They see it as a way of combating huge power imbalances that often exists between public figures and audiences. Of course, there's always two sides to an argument. On the flip side, some people believe this holistic style thinking is ruining our society. Many conservative politicians have increasingly embraced the argument that cancel culture rather than being a way of speaking truth to power has spun out of control and becoming a senseless form of social mob rule. For example at the 2020 R. N. C. S. Numerous speakers including the two a.m. Twitter himself, donald trump addresses canceled closure directly and one delegates resolution even explicitly targeted the phenomenon describing it as having grown into erasing of history, encouraging lawlessness, muting citizens and violating free exchange of ideas, thoughts and speech. Yes if it happens it can be very damaging but actually ending someone's career through the power of public backlash is difficult. Well they may have faced considerable negative criticism and calls to be held accountable to their statements and actions. Not many people who have been cancelled have truly experienced career ending repercussions. Unless you're Shane Dawson jimmy Fallon, J. K. Rowling, Demi Lovato James, Charles, Bill Cosby, Antonio Brown Drew Brees police force Ellen. Like anybody to be honest. Yes. It may be hard to actually end somebody's career. It is still way easier than it used to be with our new form of communication. It's becoming easy for people to voice their opinions, huge social media platforms like instagram facebook and twitter all make it very easy to upload old information opinions are subjected to change. Yes, but everyone knows that once you put something on the internet it will stay there forever. The infinite amount of information that the internet has on everyone is actually scary. Social media post can be unearthed after years of never being seen. All it takes is a few people to speak on the truth or one viral post to change an impression on a whole entire crowd of people. Mhm after a few uses of the word that went viral, it started to become a common word in the societal vocabulary, arguments arose from the vicious battle grounds of twitter communities. As ideological divide seem more and more insurmountable. The line between the personal and the political is vanishing from winning people. Even though cancel culture seems to generate few lasting consequences for celebrities and their careers. Some people view it as a part of a broader trend they find deeply disturbing an inability to forgive and move on. So what is cancer culture? An important tool of social justice or a new form of merciless mob intimidation? If canceling someone usually doesn't have much measurable effect. Does cancer culture even exists? What does the very idea of being cancelled work to deter potential bad behavior? The topic is still very hot, so it could probably change in the future. This is my project. I hope you enjoy shout out baby boat shoutout mr Ungerleider uh, by
