Started doing voice work for explanations of large-group team mechanics in online RPG game boss fights; explaining the names of the an enemy monster attack, what it does, and how to react to it in a group dynamic for players. The videos were meant for my group of friends, but are unlisted on YouTube for sampling.

I maintain a baritone when I'm more focused on what I'm saying, but as I start to ad lib my voice will pitch up unless I'm reading a script of some manner.

I've also done a few practice runs of casting - keeping a steady dialogue going to explain things happening on-screen.

Anecdotally, and only once so far, I've been asked to read a bedtime story over Skype (back in 2011) to help a friends' child get to sleep. I'm not sure if it was my voice that helped, but that was a very charming experience for me, so hey, why not share.
