in Part one. Tiktok user Zach twist commented that he's going to need a part two with volcano explanation please. The peaks are situated in a volcanic field, which is believed to have first begun erupting six million years ago. The most recent volcanic eruption in Arizona was a sunset creator eruption, which has been dated by trees and pottery stuck in the lava flows at 10 85 A. D. That's not even 1000 years ago at this time, the Sin Agua people were living in this region and some believe the displacement caused by the eruption of Sunset crater is what led to the expansion of Elden pueblo. It also helped out agriculture in the area because the cinders helped hold water into the soil because Elden pueblo is on the east side of Flagstaff. This time I decided to travel east here, the peaks are seen from the new meteor crater rest area at 42 miles away and this is where it really starts to get beautiful because now you're in a more desert environment, peering through heat waves to look at a snow covered pine tree covered ancient volcano. Here again, you can see the peaks at 45 miles due east. I passed through Winslow and Holbrook and drove right on into the Petrified Forest National Park from Point A to point the peaks are seen from 108 miles away. This really makes you realize the significance of the peaks for tens of thousands of years. Anyone wandering this desert could see these peaks in the distance and no, there's a guaranteed place to get fresh drinking water.
