Hey, I help everyone is doing well as we enter into the third week of the school semester. But before we dive into the main lecture, I just want to go over a few housekeeping things. So number one, the interactive slide deck away to go on your responses. You gave him the topic one interactive slide deck. I was really impressed with your thoughts. It shows that you're thinking about politics and government and really meaningful ways. So please keep up with that. And as I mentioned in the announcements this past week, it's absolutely crucial that you do this as it's meant to help you in your learning process and develop those self. I didn't learn our muscles. Second thing as always, it is great to see you guys during the zoom hangout sessions. I like getting to know you all and remember that this is an opportunity for you to get your questions answered and think more deeply about material and that's what classmates going to test. You also get a few extra bits of insights for me that can help you to complete your assignments successfully and us to broaden your knowledge. The last thing I know that some of you are still a little um having difficulty in adjusting to the new normal of online classes. So I just want to start out by giving you some extra tips and I'm hoping to make things easier, especially considering that we'll be doing this in 2021. So number one, change up your environment. It's easy to feel stuck eventually if you're sitting in the same place all the time. So if you feel like you're not being able to be productive then just try switching up where you work, it's like giving your brain a bit of a reset second accountability partners. Now one of the ways that I stay on top of my tasks is to work with my friends who are also fellow professors. We'll get together to do some more accessions so we can get through our task together and make sure that we're sitting on top of things by asking each other about our goals towards our progress. And then the third thing is organized now we hear the word stay organized or the phrase. They organize all the time. But what does that mean? So to be organized means that at any given moment you can quickly recall all the items and tasks you're responsible for accomplishing on an hourly daily and weekly basis and as well you know when those things are do additionally you can easily find the information that you need to help with those tasks. So please make sure that you're always saying on top of your list due dates and information Okay onto the mini lecture topic which is all about public policy. Now this is really important because policies are the laws that shape our lives and outcomes And these are the mechanisms or social contracts through which elected officials actually enact their plans and agendas and so this is a really important year of her policy because in November 2020 we have the opportunity to vote on quite a few. So the more you know about policy, the more inform you'll be as a voter and someone who can inform other voters. Additionally, pay attention to what political candidates say about the policies that they plan to enact to achieve goals like pandemic relief, racial justice, access to education, tax reform, the kind of name, healthy environment and more so with that, let us get on to our mini lecture.
