You feel a constant pressure to look a certain way to have a certain lifestyle and to fit into the mold of what's considered perfect. But what you don't realize is that Instagram isn't real life. It's a carefully curated and crafted highlight reel designed to make you feel inadequate and insecure. The constant comparison and validation seeking is taking a toll on your mental health leading to anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. If you're feeling this way, you are not alone, this generation is facing an unprecedented level of exposure to social media leading to a rise in mental health issues, the pressure to conform to societal standards of beauty, success and popularity is suffocating and it's creating a false sense of reality. The addictive nature of social media is also affecting your brain chemistry leading to a dopamine addiction and an endless cycle of seeking validation through likes and comments. The constant need for external validation is hindering your ability to develop a strong sense of self and to find happiness from within it. But it doesn't have to be this way, you have the power to take control of your mental health and to break free from the cycle of comparison and validation seeking. You can choose to limit your social media use to follow accounts that promote positivity and self-love and to prioritize your own well-being over the opinions of others. You can also seek support from friends, family and mental health professionals to address if any underlying issues and to develop a stronger sense of self-esteem and self-worth, Instagram and social media may be a part of your life, but they don't have to define your worth and your happiness. It's time to prioritize your mental health and to find joy in the beauty of life.
