About

John Fishback started learning to be a DJ in college radio at Lehigh University. He was excited by the radio business and decided he wanted to work as a voiceover after graduation. After a three and a half year stint in the Air Force, he started auditioning for VO work.

It was very slow at first. At an audition at a small recording studio in Connecticut, he mentioned to one of the owners that he had worked in college radio and had experience recording, editing and mixing audio. While he didn't get the VO job, he was offered a job as a recording engineer.

Over the ensuing years, he recorded and directed many top voiceover talents including Alexander Scourby, Peter Thomas, Bob Marcato, James Earl Jones, Dick Hehmeyer, Alan Kalter, and more. He honed his craft and continued to learn from working with the best.

Today, he still loves doing a job that isn't really a job - just a lot of fun. He'd love to work with you.

Post Production

My audio studio is equipped with a Yamaha DM1000 digital console, Pro Tools Ultimate, Genelec DSP monitors, the full iZotope Production Studio which includes iZotope RX8 Advanced, and the Waves Sound Design, Restoration and Forensics bundles.

I've been producing audio for over twenty-five years. I've recorded and directed thousands of audio sessions: local and regional commercials, audiobooks, training programs, film sound, and ADR. I've worked with Hollywood studios and Network and Cable TV producers. I've edited, added sound effects and library music (occasionally original music), and mixed and mastered the final product. In the old days, it wasn't called sound design, but that's what I did.

P&P Studios Inc. • Permanent Full-time

Mar 1978 - Present

Over the years I have worked with a broad range of clients including small local companies, large companies, Hollywood studios, and TV networks. I've done all the jobs you'd expect in an audio production company. I did sound design before it was called that. Back in the early 80s, we were given a pre-produced video of an amateur golf tournament with no sound except for a couple of on-camera interviews. I created the background ambiance, crowd responses, ball hits and the ball dropping into the cup, etc. We didn't have DAWs back then. It was all done with a synced 24-track tape machine. Fun!

Skill Overview

Sound Design

While today sound design is understood, back in the 80s it wasn't called that, but that's what I did. My first major design was for a broadcast amateur golf tournament video. I was supplied a 3/4 video with no sound except for on-camera interviews. I created layered background ambiances, crowd responses, ball hits, and the ball dropping into the hole, etc. We didn't have DAWs back then. I built the track using a 24-track machine, then mixed it down and transferred it to a 1 Type-C video machine. I continued to do this job for 4 years until the program was canceled. Today, I see my job as magnifying excitement and emotion in a scene wherever possible. I have better tools that allow me to work faster with more flexibility.
