things that are impossible. When I first began planning to be mrs delicious. A trike riding ice cream lady, I professed that I would be willing to ride around town giving out ice cream for free. Of course, at the time I was thinking in terms of a first year of revenue, meaning as long as I broke even I'd be willing to do the work. A friend and mentor told me that as an ice cream lady, there would be more joy in store than I could ever imagine. What I didn't understand was how powerful this idea of surprising strangers with a gift of ice cream would become. I didn't know how stories of intimate interactions giving strangers free ice cream would motivate patrons to pay it forward again and again and again and so I am often literally riding around town giving away ice cream, feeling more joy than I ever imagined Today. I worked my own neighborhood, small summer festival. It is the same neighborhood where I teach where more than 85% of our families qualify for free and reduced lunch. All the ice cream today was paid forward all of it. My sign simply said, ice cream. Today's treats are paid ahead by people who want to know that something good happens every day. And the patrons who received this ice cream often ask and disbelief who, who paid for this ice cream and all I can do is smile and sigh and say So many people all across this country sent me money so that I can give you this gift today. So many people I never could have imagined. I give away ice cream and memory of Michael and Joy Lance, lisa fathers, mothers, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers. I give away ice cream to honor birthdays. I give away ice cream for fellow teachers and principals. I give away ice cream simply because people want to keep it going. I am humbled and grateful. I hope each of you understand how honored I am to use your gifts large and small to make someone's day a little brighter. Thank you for the privilege and for making what seemed impossible possible.
