Hello and welcome. We'd like to say thank you for being a caregiver. During this time many people considered a duty calling or even a privilege to care for a loved one who is receiving hospice care and family caregivers are essential to hospice care at home. We understand caregiving can be both rewarding and difficult. Please know we are here to provide support to you and your loved one every step of the way. What is anxiety? Anxiety is the feeling of worry, nervousness or unease on what might happen in the future? Anxiety affects a person's physical, physiological, social and spiritual well being signs of anxiety may include the following agitation, sleepiness, restlessness, sweating, rapid heart rate, difficulty breathing, panic attacks, worry and tension medications that the hospice physicians or nurse practitioners may prescribe for hospice patients include alprazolam, also known as Xanax clonazePAM also known as Klonopin LORazepam, also known as Heaven and diazePAM also known as Valium. These medications work quickly in the body, usually within an hour. Most common side effects is sedation. Most side effects should lessen if the medications are started at a low dose and increased slowly. Non medications that help with anxiety include listening to music, reading, massage, aromatherapy and providing activities that the patient may find enjoyable.
