We bring you the latest pictures of fighting in Qatari Square. Sources close to the army report that at least two young anarchist demonstrators opened fire this afternoon with semi automatic weapons on army personnel who were performing crowd control duties armed only with shields and batons. Six soldiers are reported to have died, dozens more wounded. A witness at the scene told our reporter that after several minutes of continuous shooting by the gunman, army snipers eventually returned fire are the witness reports are of many casualties and an unknown number of dead amongst the student demonstrators. It is believed that some members of the Republican People's Party Blue Shirt Brigade, who had begun to pull out of the square earlier in the day, were caught in the crossfire. Latest indications are that large numbers of blue shirt activists have now started to regroup in adjoining side streets and our reentering Qatari square. They appear to be joining army units in firing upon the student demonstrators. We await verification of these reports and shall return to Qatari Square as soon as we have them.
