Actually, woman are highly needed in voice acting, the business is still saturated with male voices, so this is a great time to get in on the ground floor. If I were you, I would check out someplace like www.navag.org where they offer one-on-one workshops and lessons for not very much money so you can see if this is right for you before you invest too much.
Hope this helps and feel free to contact me personally if you need any more help! : )

Thank you so much, I friended www.navag.org on FB and will look into getting one of the lessons. In the mean time I would like to put together a short recording, do you have any advice about the most cost efficient way to do this, is it worthwhile to have a home studio, or are these jobs typically in studio jobs?
Regards
Robyn
Robyn,
I would purchase a USB mic for about $50 - then you can do everything yourself at home and save a bundle by not having to pay for studio time. Most EVERYTHING (with the exception of union work) is done in home studios now.
If you can email me at voiceactorsguild@gmail.com - I can help you more, just so we can continue our conversation without clogging up this message board. : )
