Translation and language has always been my passion. Now it's time to talk!
My translation work got me into voiceover acting. One of my clients liked my telephone voice so much that he asked me to record a new answering machine message for his agency. Then my husband, a TV journalist at NDR Broadcasting, noticed the quality of my voice and asked me to do the voiceover for one of his features. Then a professional voiceover actor recorded some demos with me at a professional recording studio, which I sent it to a couple of studios and one of them asked me to come in and audition - it turned into a TV spot for Suzuki. As you can see, all a chain of events that meant a great deal. It reminded me of how I started my translation career. Taking chances, trusting and following my instincts and solidifying a talent with proper training.
For translators, language is everyday business. From written to spoken language it's only a small step, and yet they make two very different jobs. Nevertheless they're closely related, and you can always "speak" professionally inside your head. As a translator of TV scripts, I need to "transcreate" a German text so it can be spoken by the voiceover artist. For the right flow, I need to speak my translation out loud. So basically Ive been a voiceover artist myself for years :)
Listening to Tom Hanks' and Ewan McGregor's German voices (and I love them both very much!) have been highlights of my career! So if you would like to share my love for voiceover and if you need a friendly, warm, clear, informative, descriptive voice like mine, I'd be very happy to help!
I have my own small studio at home, but I can also work with a professional studio around the corner.
