As cities and towns grow over time. Existing transportation infrastructure becomes stressed by increased demand and many roadways are forced to carry significantly more traffic than they were originally designed for. One result is something known as a strode. A hybrid trying to do two things at once. A street serving as a variety of local uses and a road that moves a lot of cars at higher speeds just like photons are pretty lousy at being both a couch in bed strode. Don't do either thing very well. The increased number of traffic planes and complex intersections on strode is come at a real cost to efficiency and access to nearby businesses as well as safety, particularly for our most vulnerable road users like pedestrians and bicyclists across America. Cities want to redevelop their strolls into walkable denser mixed use boulevards. But face the very real issue that the high traffic volume is literally going nowhere fast.
