Young adulthood is conceptualized as a distinct transitional period characterized by increased autonomy and exploration of identity, work and love. As young adults shift into adult roles and take on more responsibilities, their relationships with family and friends often evolved, and the people they turn to for comfort advice or cheering up may change. Despite the potential transformation of social support networks, few studies have examined how support changes across this period, especially among individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds who may have different support needs. Enormes the study addresses these gaps by examining changes and emotional support from parents, peers and siblings among individuals from Asian, Latin American and European American backgrounds. Additionally, although research has focused on perceptions of received support, social support is a dynamic process of social exchange and reciprocity. Therefore, we also assess how changes in perceived support are linked with changes in expectations to provide instrumental support to families for this age group.
