Bill Courage. Northern Minnesota is a land of transition. It's where the great northern boreal forest gives way to broadleaf woodlands pulsing with late spring activity. It's a time of change for young families to these black bear cubs born in february savor their first taste of the world outside the winter den. Under mom's watchful eye, they waste no time exploring the neighborhood. At the first sign of danger, they instinctively know to race to the sky.
