Hello, Welcome to Horse Lord. The podcast about majestic beasts and people who ride them. I'm your host, Hunter Bond. Born in October of 1896, Modi Coggan Boatwright isn't much in the way of a household name, but to those who praise the scholarly study of american folklore and specifically the folklore and tall tales of texas modi. Boatwright is considered one of the best where many of his time like to even further aggrandize the tall tales and legends they were documenting, modi was appreciated for presenting the tales in the unchanged original voice of those who told them in 1940. While working as a teacher at UT Austin, which modi did for most of his career. He collaborated with J. Frank Dobie and Harry H Ransom, two other well known american folklore historians to produce a book for the texas folklore society called mustangs and cow horses. As the inaugural series here at horse lore, we're going to pay tribute to this exhaustive work with a collection of episodes inspired by the stories gathered for the book by these early appreciator of western horse lore
