an estimated eight million tonnes of plastic waste is being discharged into the world's oceans every year. UV light on the motion of the waves break this plastic down into tiny particles, which are eaten by fish. Concern is growing for the health of the wildlife and humans who then consume these fish. One person who is passionate about tackling this problem is Dutchman boy and slat, aged just 18. He set up the Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit organisation working for the elimination of plastic from the world's rivers and oceans. Buoyant is the youngest ever recipient of the UN's highest environmental award. We asked him about the current state of the plastic waste problem on the prospects for the future.
