the Amazon basin is the largest tropical rainforest in the world, covering 2.3 million square miles, or approximately 40% of South America. The Amazon River itself is the second longest in the world and the largest in terms of water flow and drainage area. This is home to more species of plants and animals than any other terrestrial ecosystem on the planet. On DH, approximately 30% of the world's living creatures can be found here. The basin contains about 2.5 million insect species, tens of thousands of plants and about 2000 birds and mammals, including the JAG you, a harpy eagle and giant otter. The Amazon is also home to a number of indigenous communities.
