Emanuel was found by a passing by at four AM in an area known for sex work. He was brought to me in the emergency department and I assessed that he had capacity to consent to his treatment. I offered him a warm cup of tea and fresh clothes. I told him I was there to listen and make sure he was okay. I wasn't going to judge. After assessing, I suspected that he may have contracted a sexually transmitted infection. This, together with his injuries, suggested that he may have been sexually exploited. This was later confirmed by Emmanuel to his social worker. I informed the local authority, Children's social services and police as well as followed our organization's internal safeguarding procedures. Once we knew more as safeguarding strategy meeting was held with safeguarding partners, we work together to create a plan to protect him annual from the information collected and shared. It was agreed that Emmanuel had been trafficked and sexually exploited by an older boyfriend. It was determined that his social worker would make the NRA um referral after ensuring all relevant information had been shared across agencies. His social worker also made a referral to the independent child trafficking Guardian Service who could provide tailored support in our area. Emmanuel social worker then explained the measures that have been put in place to keep him safe and the referrals that had been made to support him in a way that he could understand.
