Charlie is outgoing. One of the pair never lost for a topic or an anecdote. He's full of himself, but in a good way. I had no idea what to expect from him, but I find him highly entertaining. There is no arrogance about him, either. I could imagine such a famous climber being full of self aggrandisement, but he has none of that. Quite the opposite. It is Jack who whispers to me that Charlie climbed the Cassin Ridge two years ago. Solo, that is really impressive. I know that the Cassin Ridge is currently the hardest route to the top of the highest mountain in America. Peter is an affable personality, but quieter and more considered. It seems we have become welcome neighbours, and we also share similarly ambitious climbing plans. I listened carefully to Charlie when he describes his intended route to the rooster comb. In case I can learn something, all this talk spurs me on. I want to attack the time straight away. I am not accustomed, the hanging out looking at the mountain. Everything I have done up to this point has been climbed quickly. The weather is good in the Alps. When you arrive, you go for it. Waiting and thinking requires a patient's. I struggle to find within myself
