it was getting dark. It was July, but even with a sudden overcast, there was no way it could get so dim so quickly. It felt like night was approaching, and with every additional step, it seemed to get later, 10 yards down the road, and it was dusk, 30 yards, and it was midnight. My conscious brain started to take back over, pushing the flight response down inside. It should not be this dark. The tightness in my chest had stabilized just a sort of dull ache. But the fuzziness persisted, and as I looked around, I realized I couldn't focus on anything. The trees, all blended together on the road, seemed to melt into the grass lining it. I looked back at where I'd come from. Just a few 100 feet away, the entrance to the camp glowed in the bright, noonday sun. Everything immediately surrounding the camp was crystal clear. Pine trees swayed in a gentle breeze, the branches lush and well defined. But I couldn't make out a single branch on the tree just 10 feet in front of me
