Greetings to you all. We have been wondering how old our universe is. The universe is estimated around 93 billion light years across. But this doesn't mean it is 93 billion years old. A light year is a unit of distance and not a unit of time, which measures how far light can travel in one earth year. The universe is much older than the distance it pounds. And according to the last measurements, the universe is about 13.8 billion years old, which means that the light we see from the most distant Galaxies have been traveling for almost 13.8 billion years to reach us. However, those Galaxies are not actually 13.8 billion light years away from us right now. And the reason for that is the universe is rapidly expanding and therefore the space between Galaxies is stretching. So the Galaxies that emitted the light we see today are actually much further away from us now than they were when we emitted that light. The first time scientists estimate that the current distance to those Galaxies is around 46 billion light years, which means that the diameter of the observable universe, which is a tiny fraction of the whole universe is around 92 billion light years. However, we do not know how big the whole universe is, but some scientists believe it is at the very least 250 times larger than the observable universe.
