We all know the iconic Udar Pique Royal Oak. But did you know the story behind its name as the first up watch bearing a name and not only a reference naming the watch was the subject of internal debate. And another designation was almost chosen initially during the development of the watch, Jacques Louis Uar referred to it as safari. The name Excalibur was also floated around during the discussions. Finally, an Italian agent by the name of Carlo de Marquis came up with the final designation which referred to the Royal Oak ships of the Royal Navy. The most recent of which were armored in metal a bit like the watch case. Geral Genta designer of the watch ended up using the safari name for his Geral Genta Jea Safari watch. The first wristwatch with a bronze case created in 1988. Its style very different from the Royal Oak seems better suited to the name Safari. What's your favorite watch? Anecdote, share it in the comments and stay tuned for the next one.
