Chapter two Finding her way. Ours is the commencement of a flying age, and I am happy to have popped into existence at a period so interesting. Amelia Earhart, they call it the turbulent teens. Before Amelia Earhart, the malevolent winds that buffeted her teenage years were a little too hard to take. The winds of fate seemed to shift on a daily basis, and depending on the fortunes of her father's faltering career, she would be inevitably sucked in by the downdraft. In the fall of 1915 Amelia's father claimed to have been given a position by the Burlington Railroad in Springfield, Missouri. And just like that, the family was expected to pack their bags and move yet again. Despite the hardship, they dutiful e dear, where they were told and followed Edwin Erhard to Springfield, where they lived in a rundown boarding house while he lined up his job prospects.
